Our Company
Van Houten Consulting and Design is an energetic and growing civil engineering firm in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. We provide civil engineering services to both private and public land development projects across Idaho and Washington. It is not only imperative that we see our clients’ goals of time, quality and budget are met but also to establish and maintain trusted long-term relationships with the people and communities we serve.
Merle Van Houten, P.E., LEED A.P. - President
Merle moved to North Idaho with his wife in 2005 to enjoy the abundant outdoor opportunities the area has to offer. He is an alumnus of the Colorado School of Mines and prefers to spend his free time outside with his family camping, biking, fishing, running and skiing.
Merle is a licensed Professional Engineer in Idaho and Washington and a LEED Accredited Professional.
Isaac Hood, P.E.
Isaac is a Spokane native and earned his civil engineering degree at Gonzaga University. His main pursuits outside of work are building computers, playing video games and music.
Isaac is a licensed Professional Engineer in Idaho and Washington.
Claire Tompkins, E.I.T.
Claire lived in a few different locations growing up, including Japan! Her family eventually settled in Spokane where she earned her engineering degree from Eastern Washington University. Claire enjoys running, skiing and art, among other activities.
